Photographic Series

Four photographic series, made between Berlin, Duisburg, Gotland and the Isle of Man. They share a method rather than a subject — the working definition is on abstract architecture photography: photograph a surface long enough and it stops describing the thing it belongs to. What remains is colour, edge and light — which is where the picture actually starts.

Façades, walls and painted surfaces, photographed head-on in Berlin, Duisburg, Visby and Douglas. Repair layers, patched render and old paint read as composition once the building around them is cropped away.

Das Haus gegenüber

One apartment block in Berlin-Kreuzberg, seen from the same window over months. The frame never moves; only the light does. Every trace of habitation is taken out, leaving a surface passing through a year.

Auf Augenhöhe

Refurbished apartment blocks in Berlin, photographed at eye level with one window per picture and the roller shutter down. The colour was chosen for a whole estate at once; the shutter is the one part of the façade the tenant still decides. Nothing here is colour-shifted.

Light and shadow · 13 photographs

Abstract

Photographs that have given up their subject: water, smoke, cast shadow and painted geometry, kept as flat planes of tone. Mostly black and white, now and then interrupted by a single block of colour. Nothing staged, nothing composited — found and framed tightly.
