Blinds, Kreuzberg — I
A ground-floor window, shut. The shutter is down to the sill, its slats holding a soft diagonal of light on the left; the reveal is deep enough to keep its own shadow. Below, a sprayed tag runs across the render. Below that, a concrete plinth and two mesh vents, level with the pavement.
The colour is not the building’s. It is shifted afterwards — a decision, not a record. What the camera found was the geometry and the light crossing it; what I changed was the temperature at which you read them.
There is no way into this picture. No glass, no interior, no view through — the eye is stopped at the surface and kept there. That is also what makes it hold at 90 × 120 cm: a large print of a deep space pulls you in, a large print of a closed plane pushes back.
Photographed from the pavement in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The tag is the only handwriting anywhere in this series — every other line in it was drawn by a builder.
