Poetry of the City — Kreuzberg, Berlin
An ochre wall in the foreground, a pink one to the right, and between them the pale sliver of a gable rising into the sky. Anchor bolts sit in the render at regular intervals, like punctuation. One window, small and low. Nothing in the frame tells you how large any of this is.
The colour is not the buildings’. It is shifted afterwards — a decision, not a record. What the camera found was the geometry and the light crossing it; what I changed was the temperature at which you read them.
The anchor bolts are the only clue to scale, and not a reliable one — they could be set a hand apart or a metre. At 30 × 40 cm the picture stays a detail of a street. At 90 × 120 it stops being a wall at all and becomes three flat fields meeting at hard edges.
Photographed on 7 April 2026 in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Part of Fremde Fassaden, an ongoing series of colour-shifted façades made in Berlin, with detours to Duisburg, Visby and Douglas. See the other works made in Kreuzberg.
